Termite Treatment in Sanibel Starts With Knowing Which Termite You Have

If you are looking for termite treatment in Sanibel, the first step is finding out which termite is in your home. Florida has drywood termites, Formosan termites, and native subterranean termites. Each one lives and feeds differently, so each calls for a different treatment. A method that fits one species may not fit another. That is why every job starts with an inspection before anyone recommends a treatment.

A drywood termite colony lives entirely within the wood it feeds on. The colony has no contact with the soil and gets its moisture from the wood and its own metabolism. Native subterranean termites and Formosan termites are subterranean species, and the options for them differ. Our inspector looks at what is present in your home, identifies the species, and writes up options that fit it.

On Demand Pest Control offers seven termite services, and each one matches specific species. For drywood termites, the options are a drywood bond (one-year or three-year), spot drywood treatment, or drywood tent fumigation. For native subterranean termites, the option is the termite baiting system. For Formosan termites, the options are the baiting system, liquid Formosan treatment, or Formosan fumigation. Each service has its own written agreement. You can see what is included, how long any coverage lasts, and what is left out before you choose a method for your Sanibel home.

Drywood vs. Subterranean Termites: Why Identification Comes First

Drywood and subterranean termites need different treatment. A drywood colony lives within the wood it infests, so treatment goes to the wood, either in targeted spots, through a drywood bond, or across the whole structure with tent fumigation. Native subterranean termites are treated with the baiting system. Formosan termites can be treated with the baiting system, liquid soil treatment, or Formosan tent fumigation of the structure. Shed wings near windows and doors can come from either group. Identifying the species is what lets our inspector recommend a method that fits.

When Do Termites Swarm on Sanibel Island?

For many homeowners, a swarm is the first sign of termites. A swarm is a flight of winged termites, called alates, leaving a mature colony to start new ones. Swarm timing depends on the species, so it helps to know which calendar applies to what you are seeing:

  • Formosan subterranean termites: In Florida, swarms usually run from early April to late June, shortly after sunset, with the most activity in May. One flight can hold tens of thousands of termites. When a structure is infested, the swarm can happen indoors.
  • West Indian drywood termites: Mating flights mostly happen from April to June, but they can happen at any time of year. After the flight, the termites shed their wings. Pairs then look for a crack, hole, or knot in wood to start a new colony.
  • Native subterranean termites (Reticulitermes): Florida’s three native species each swarm on their own schedule. R. hageni flies from early December to early February. R. flavipes flies from early January through April. R. virginicus flies from early February to late May. The last two usually fly on warm, sunny, windless early afternoons after rain, while R. hageni flies in the evening.

These calendars overlap, so a Sanibel homeowner can see winged termites in winter, spring, and early summer. Shed wings near a window or an evening swarm inside the house are good reasons to book an inspection, whatever the month. A West Indian drywood colony does not produce alates until it is mature, at about five years old. So when those swarmers appear, the colony has likely been in the wood for a while.

How a Termite Inspection and Treatment Plan Works

What the inspection finds shapes your treatment plan. Here is how the process usually goes:

  1. Book your free inspection.

We respond the same day, and new customers are typically scheduled within 24 hours. Same-day appointments depend on availability and preparation.

  2. Inspection of accessible areas.

Our inspector checks the areas of the home they can safely access for signs of termite activity and conditions that attract termites.

  3. Species identification.

The inspector determines whether the activity comes from drywood termites, Formosan termites, or native subterranean termites. The options you get depend on that answer.

  4. Written options and quote.

You get a written quote listing the services that fit the species found. For drywood termites, that may be spot treatment, a drywood bond (attic treatment, spot injections, or radius treatment), or whole-house tent fumigation. For native subterranean termites, the option is the baiting system. For Formosan termites, the options are the baiting system, liquid soil treatment, or Formosan fumigation.

  5. Preparation.

Each method has its own prep. Tent fumigation means leaving the home for the vacate period, typically two nights and three days, and returning only after the licensed fumigator posts clearance. Liquid Formosan treatment does not require you to leave. You clear items from along the foundation and mark any buried lines. People and pets stay clear of the work area while treatment is in progress, and off treated soil until the application has been watered in or has dried. The baiting system involves installing stations in the soil around the home.

  6. Treatment by a technician.

A technician applies the chosen treatment following the product label and your agreement.

  7. Follow-up under your agreement.

Follow-up depends on your contract. During the active term, the baiting system agreement includes inspection of the installed system at least once a year. For the bonds, drywood fumigation, and liquid Formosan treatment, you request an inspection when you notice activity. Formosan fumigation includes no retreatment or reinspection.

What Does Termite Treatment Cost in Sanibel?

Termite costs depend on the species, the method, and the size of the home, so our published starting figure applies to one specific service.

Termite protection in Sanibel starts around $975 for a one-year drywood termite bond on a smaller home.

That figure is for a one-year drywood termite bond on a smaller home. Spot treatment, the three-year bond, drywood fumigation, Formosan fumigation, baiting system installation, and liquid Formosan treatment are each quoted separately. Your final price depends on the size and layout of your home, how far the activity has spread, which species is involved, and whether you choose a localized treatment or a whole-structure one. Every job starts with a free inspection and a written quote. An official WDO report for a real estate transaction is a separate paid service, quoted on request.

What On Demand Pest Control Customers Say

★★★★★

“Aiden was excellent! On his own initiative, he checked the wooden table and mirror by the front door where the dead termites had been found. He also checked another piece of wooden furniture that was nearby. He also found a new hole that the termites had made and was very thorough in treating the whole area. We are very pleased with his service and would highly recommend him to our friends.”

— A. Jones
★★★★★

“On Friday morning I saw what appeared to be droppings from drywood termites in my cabinet. I sent an online inquiry about a termite inspection. I received a call within 10 minutes, and by 130 that afternoon Bill came by to do a free inspection. Bill was knowledgeable, thorough, honest, and polite. He didn’t try to sell me something I didn’t need and provided a synopsis of possible treatments.”

— L. Shortt
★★★★★

“My neighbors used them and they came highly recommended. I called, they scheduled right away to come out, scheduled the tenting for termites right away, and scheduled the walk through appointment. Matthew Klein Senior inspector came out and is my rep now. He is very thorough, honest, and upfront. They do not add additional services just because, they listen to your needs, no games.”

Termite Service Terms: What Each Treatment Includes

Each termite service has its own written service terms, and our inspector will go over them before you decide. Not every service includes a warranty. The drywood bonds cover additional treatment of covered drywood activity at no charge during the initial term, which is one or three years. After that, you can renew year by year. Drywood fumigation comes with a one-year term that covers additional treatment of covered drywood activity at no charge, and you can choose to renew it each year by paying the annual renewal fee. Spot treatment covers only the treated areas for sixty days, is not renewable, and cannot be transferred. The baiting system includes a first year of monitoring, with inspection of the installed system at least once a year during the active term, and optional yearly renewal. Liquid Formosan treatment includes a one-year renewable term that covers further liquid treatment only, never fumigation.

None of these agreements pays to repair wood that termites have damaged. Formosan fumigation is sold with no warranty and no included retreatment. If Formosan termite activity shows up after a Formosan fumigation, any further treatment is quoted separately as new work. Longer-term Formosan protection needs its own agreement, such as liquid treatment or a baiting system.

Frequently asked questions

Is a termite inspection in Sanibel free?

Yes. Our standard termite inspection is free, and it comes with a written quote and treatment options. An official WDO report for a home sale or closing is a separate paid service, and we quote it on request.

Do I have to leave my home during termite treatment?

It depends on the method. Tent fumigation means leaving for the vacate period, typically two nights and three days, and returning only after the licensed fumigator posts clearance. You can stay home during liquid Formosan treatment, but people and pets need to stay clear of the work area while treatment is in progress, and off treated soil until the application has been watered in or has dried. Other methods have their own prep steps, which your agreement explains.

Does a termite warranty pay to repair damaged wood?

No. None of our termite agreements covers wood repair or replacement. Where a warranty applies, it covers specific retreatment or servicing during the term. Formosan fumigation is sold with no warranty.

How soon can someone come out to my Sanibel home?

We respond the same day, and new customers are typically scheduled within 24 hours. Same-day appointments depend on availability and preparation.

Can a baiting system treat drywood termites?

No. The baiting system targets subterranean termites, including Formosan termites. A drywood colony lives within wood, so drywood termites are treated with spot treatment, a drywood bond, or tent fumigation.
