Is Termite Fumigation the Right Fix for Your Florida Home?

If drywood termite pellets keep appearing or activity may extend into inaccessible wood, a free on-site inspection can help determine whether your home needs tenting. On Demand Pest Control provides a written quote for appropriate termite fumigation, which treats a whole structure for drywood termites. The building is sealed under tarps, and a fumigant fills the enclosed space. The fumigant can reach colonies hidden inside walls, framing, attic wood and trim. Drywood termites live inside the wood they eat and don’t need contact with soil. A colony can sit deep inside a structural member where spot work can’t reach it. Tenting treats the entire sealed structure at once instead of working one board at a time.

Not every home or infestation needs a tent, and we won’t assume yours does. Our inspector looks at the evidence and the structure first, then tells you whether fumigation is suitable. If it is, you get a written quote and scope before anything is scheduled. If tenting isn’t the right fit, the inspector will tell you so, and you can talk through other termite treatment questions before you decide anything.

The licensed fumigator and the fumigant’s product label control preparation, access and re-entry on every fumigation. Those rules exist to keep people safe, and we follow them. On Demand Pest Control has served Florida homeowners since 2017. We explain each step up front, and the agreement you sign states exactly what’s included.

What Drywood Termite Tenting Covers and What It Doesn't

Structural fumigation targets drywood termites inside the sealed building. Here’s what this service includes and where it stops:

  • Drywood termite colonies in the structure: active infestations in the treated building, including framing, rafters, attic wood, trim, and door and window frames.
  • Main home plus qualifying structures: if the inspection supports it, a second structure on the property, such as a shed, can be added to the scope. Your quote will reflect it.
  • Hidden and hard-to-reach activity: colonies inside walls and ceiling voids that localized treatment may not reach.
  • Subterranean termites aren’t included: this service is for drywood termites, and the fumigation warranty excludes subterranean termites.
  • Formosan termites need their own quote: a fumigation quote doesn’t cover Formosan termites. Any Formosan work is assessed and quoted individually.
  • No wood repair: fumigation addresses live drywood termites. It doesn’t repair or replace damaged wood.

Boats and yachts require a vessel-specific assessment. Our marine fumigation for boats and yachts covers drywood or Formosan termite work where suitable, with the species, vessel and treatment site determining the written quote. Residential fumigation pricing and warranty terms do not automatically apply to a vessel.

Signs of Drywood Termites That May Call for Fumigation

Drywood termites often leave clues before the damage becomes obvious. Watch for:

  • Small piles of pellets: dry, grain-like droppings (frass) on windowsills, floors or furniture, often below a tiny hole.
  • Kick-out holes: pinhole openings in wood where termites push pellets out.
  • Swarmers and discarded wings: winged termites near windows or light fixtures, or small piles of shed wings.
  • Hollow-sounding wood: trim, baseboards or frames that sound empty or feel soft when you tap them.
  • Blistered or bubbling paint: a distorted paint surface over wood that termites have tunneled near.
  • Activity in several rooms: evidence in more than one area can mean an infestation that spot treatment may not reach.

Other wood-destroying insects and moisture problems can cause some of these same signs. Only an inspection can confirm what’s active and whether tenting is the right approach.

Preparing Your Home Before Fumigation Day

Preparation often decides whether a fumigation goes ahead as planned. Before your date, you’ll get a preparation checklist that covers what needs to happen inside and around the home. You’ll also provide access, including keys and any secondary locks, so the crew can do the work and the fumigator can confirm clearance.

Plan for the household to be away for the full vacate period, and leave some flexibility in case conditions extend it. Before your date, look at plants near the foundation, rooftop equipment and anything else close to where the tarps will go. The fumigation process can affect roofs, landscaping and fixtures, and the warranty doesn’t cover that kind of damage.

How the Termite Fumigation Process Works, Step by Step

Here’s what happens from your first call until you move back in:

  1. Free inspection:

our inspector checks the evidence, the structure and the construction type (slab or crawl space). The goal is to confirm drywood activity and decide whether the home is suitable for fumigation.

  2. Written quote and scope:

you get a clear quote that lists the structures included, the required preparation and the warranty that applies.

  3. Reserving your date:

once you approve, we reserve a fumigation date. Under the agreement, changing a reserved date can carry a rescheduling fee, so pick a date that works for your household.

  4. Preparation checklist:

you complete the tasks on the preparation checklist and arrange key access. Skipping required preparation can lead to cancellation, so we go over the list with you ahead of time.

  5. Tenting and fumigation:

the structure is sealed under tarps and treated by a licensed fumigator according to the product label. Everyone, including pets, stays out for the full vacate period.

  6. Clearance and re-entry:

the fumigator tests clearance levels and posts a written clearance notice before anyone goes back inside. Weather, wind, foam-insulated attics and the size and layout of the home can all extend the vacate period, so we don’t promise the same return time for every house.

  7. Warranty follow-up:

if you see signs of drywood activity during the coverage term, let us know and we’ll schedule an inspection.

What Determines the Cost of Termite Tenting?

Fumigation is quoted for the actual structure after a free on-site inspection. The written quote identifies the structure and the work included before treatment is authorized.

The drywood fumigation quote is based on cubic footage and the home’s slab or crawl-space construction. Additional structures need to be measured and included in the scope; their size determines how they are priced with the main structure. Your inspector explains the quote and the preparation requirements before you decide.

Formosan termite work is assessed and quoted individually. An official real-estate WDO report is a separate service; the normal treatment inspection and written quote are free.

What the Drywood Fumigation Warranty Covers

When the fumigation is performed to the manufacturer’s specifications, we warrant that it will eliminate the active drywood termite infestations in the treated structure as of the treatment date. For one year from the fumigation date, we provide any additional drywood termite treatment we find necessary at no extra charge. You can extend coverage one year at a time by paying the annual renewal fee in your agreement before the current term expires. On Demand Pest Control may revise that fee with 30 days written notice. You can also transfer it to a new owner by giving us written notice within 30 days of closing; transfer covers only the remainder of the current term and does not restart it. Coverage works on request: if you report activity, we’ll schedule an inspection at no charge.

The limits matter, so read the full warranty terms before you sign. The warranty doesn’t promise that termites will never return. It doesn’t cover wood repair, subterranean or Formosan termites, moisture problems, or damage to roofs, plants or fixtures caused by the fumigation process. Structural changes made after treatment can also affect your coverage.

Frequently asked questions

How long will I need to stay out of my home during termite fumigation?

It depends on the home. The vacate period is affected by weather, wind, attic insulation, and the size and layout of the structure. You go back inside only after the licensed fumigator tests clearance and posts a written clearance notice.

Does termite fumigation work on subterranean termites?

No. Structural fumigation is a drywood termite service, and the fumigation warranty excludes subterranean termites. Formosan termites aren't included in a fumigation quote either, and any Formosan work is quoted individually.

Is the inspection free?

Yes. The standard inspection to assess your home and prepare a fumigation quote is free. An official WDO report for a real estate transaction is a separate service.

Will fumigation repair the damage termites already caused?

No. Fumigation targets live drywood termites. It doesn't repair or replace damaged wood, and the warranty excludes wood repair of any kind.

Can I transfer the fumigation warranty if I sell my home?

Yes, if you give us written notice within the required window after closing. The new owner gets the rest of the current term, and the term doesn't start over.
