Rodent Control in Miami Starts at the Roofline

Rodent control in Miami is really two jobs at once: closing the openings that let rats in, and clearing out the ones already inside. On the first service visit those happen together. Your technician seals the structure and sets interior traps the same day, and closing the house up drives the rats still inside toward those traps. The openings they use are structural — tile roof ends, soffit returns, gable and roof vents, plumbing vent stacks, and gaps where the roofline meets the wall. A rat needs very little room to get through, and once it finds a route into the attic, it keeps using that route.

The rodents associated with South Florida homes are roof rats — often called palm rats or citrus rats — along with Norway rats and house mice. Roof rats are strong climbers. They travel fence lines, tree limbs, and utility lines, then work their way onto the roof and into the attic through whatever opening is closest. Because of that climbing habit, rat removal and rodent exclusion in Miami concentrate on the attic and the roofline.

Most homeowners hear the problem before they see it. Scratching or scurrying overhead, droppings in the garage or pantry, chewed food packaging, greasy smudges along a beam, or a sour smell drifting down from the attic are all common signals. Noise that moves from one part of the house to another usually means rodents have established travel routes through the insulation.

Our approach is plain. We inspect the interior and exterior, identify the active and likely entry points, and hand you a written quote. Then we seal the openings, set the traps, and come back to check them.

The Parts of a Miami Home We Seal Against Rats

Exclusion work concentrates on the places a roof rat can actually reach, and in Miami that starts overhead: open soffit returns at the corners, gaps where fascia meets tile, unscreened gable and roof vents, ridge and eave openings on barrel-tile roofs, and plumbing vent stacks that rodents drop straight into.

Ground-level and mid-level points get attention too. Utility penetrations for A/C line sets, water lines, and electrical conduit often leave a gap wide enough to pass through. Garage door corners, dryer and bath exhaust terminations, and openings around pool equipment plumbing are all checked during the inspection.

Inside, the attic is where travel routes show themselves — runways pressed into insulation, droppings concentrated along beams, rub marks on framing. Your technician reads that evidence when deciding where traps go, so placement follows the routes the rodents are already using.

When Rat and Mouse Activity Picks Up in Miami

Rodents in Miami breed year-round. The mild local climate keeps them active in every season, so a small amount of attic activity can become a much larger problem if it is left alone. There is no off-season here, which is why activity that gets ignored tends to grow instead of fading.

Cooler, drier stretches change rodent behavior more than they change rodent numbers. When temperatures drop and outdoor food gets scarcer, rats push harder toward warm, dry, sheltered space — and a Miami attic checks all three boxes. Heavy rain works the same way from the opposite direction, driving rats off the ground and up toward roof-level shelter.

Landscaping matters in every season. The plantings common around Miami homes — palms, ficus hedges, and fruit trees like mango and avocado — offer both food and elevated highways straight to the roofline. Where limbs touch the eaves, vines climb a wall, or a soffit vent sits unscreened, rodents have an easy path onto the roof. That path keeps working for them until someone closes it.

How We Get Rats Out of a Miami Attic and Keep Them Out

Every job follows the same sequence, scaled to what your house actually needs. Here’s what to expect from the first call to the follow-up.

  1. Free inspection and written quote.

Our inspector walks the interior and the exterior — attic, garage, roofline, soffits, vents, utility penetrations — to find the active and likely entry points. You get a written quote before any work is scheduled.

  2. Sealing and trapping on the first service visit.

Your technician seals the structure and sets interior traps the same day. Closing the openings pushes the rats still inside toward those traps, which is why both happen on the same visit.

  3. Exclusion with rodent-proof materials.

Each opening gets a professional, rodent-proof material matched to it — soffit returns, roof and gable vents, plumbing vent stacks, construction gaps, and utility penetrations.

  4. Exterior bait stations where appropriate.

Perimeter stations outside the structure reduce the pressure coming from the yard and neighboring properties. These are exterior only.

  5. Follow-up visit 5–7 days later.

Rodent removal takes a minimum of two visits. Your technician returns to check traps, remove captured rodents, and reassess activity.

  6. Optional attic sanitation, quoted separately.

When contamination warrants it, we can remove soiled insulation, sanitize and deodorize the space, and re-insulate. This is an add-on you can choose, priced on its own, separate from the base rodent job.

What Does Rat Removal Cost in Miami?

Rat and mouse work is priced off the house itself, so we quote it after seeing it.

Complete rodent control in Miami — trapping plus full exclusion to seal the entry points — starts around $1,050 for a typical single-story home.

What moves the number is how much exclusion your home needs and how hard those areas are to reach. A single-story house with three clean entry points is a different job from a two-story with a complex roofline, multiple dormers, and open soffit returns along the whole back elevation. Square footage, attic access, the number of openings, roof height and pitch, and the level of activity all factor in. Optional attic sanitation carries its own quote if you want it. Every job begins with a free on-site inspection and a written quote, so you see the scope and the price in writing, with no high-pressure phone upsells.

Areas We Serve In and Around Miami

We handle rodent work for homes throughout Miami, and the service looks the same wherever your house sits: a free interior and exterior inspection, a written quote, then sealing and trapping together on the first service visit. Single-story houses, two-story homes with complicated rooflines, and older homes with tight attic access all get the same sequence, with the scope adjusted to the openings your home actually has. Scheduling runs during business hours, with same-day service often available when the schedule allows and most appointments landing within one to two business days. Property managers and community association boards can reach us for multi-unit buildings as well.

★★★★★

“Logan and Jon were incredibly knowledgeable and polite during their visit to our home. We highly recommend their services. Logan sealed off all areas after having a new tile roof installed to make sure it stays free of any rodents. Jon also came out to secure the roof again to make sure there were no additional sections that needed sealed. Jaime was also very informative as a sales rep!”

— K. Mcguire
★★★★★

“OnDemand sent Raymond as our tech. This was a nasty rodent infestation. In all he was back 5 times, VERY THOROUGH. And Patient with both the job and the concerns of the residents. Result: FULL extermination, and FULL removals! Ray was thorough so we are optimistic we won’t be seeing these rodents again any time soon. He also helped me move some things and block a potential entry point in the bathroom.”

Licensed and insured in Florida

  • Pest Control License #JB259950
  • Fully insured

On Demand Pest Control holds a Florida pest control license, and every technician who works on your home works under it. Licensing sets the standard for how materials are handled, how traps and exterior bait stations are placed, and how the work gets documented.

We also carry general liability and workers’ compensation coverage. That matters on rodent jobs specifically, because the work involves roofs, ladders, and attic crawls, and carrying that coverage is part of operating as a professional pest control company in Florida.

Why Miami Homeowners Choose Us for Rodent Control

Here is what the service includes and what stands behind it:

  • Sealing and trapping on day one. Your technician closes the entry points and sets interior traps on the same visit, so the rats still inside are driven toward the traps.
  • A written warranty on the points we seal. Recorded entry points we sealed are covered for the lifetime of the original purchaser at that address. If rodents come back through one, we re-seal it at no charge.
  • Follow-through built into the job. A minimum of two removal visits, spaced 5–7 days apart, so trap checks and an activity reassessment are part of the service you already bought.
  • Fast scheduling during business hours. Same-day service is often available when the schedule allows, and appointments are typically within one to two business days. For rats active in the living space, we usually respond by the next business day.

Our Rodent Exclusion Warranty — What's Covered

If rodents get back in through an entry point we identified, sealed, and recorded on your Exclusion Form, we come back and re-seal that point at no additional charge. The coverage lasts for the lifetime of the original purchaser at the original treated address.

A few limits are worth knowing up front. New or previously unidentified openings fall outside the warranty, including holes chewed later somewhere we never sealed. If that happens, we inspect at no charge and quote the additional exclusion work separately. Warranty service is reactive — you let us know there’s activity and we respond. It is not a pest-free promise, a damage-repair plan, or a whole-home guarantee, and the full conditions live in the service agreement.

Frequently asked questions

How much does rodent control cost in Miami?

The price depends on how much exclusion your home needs, how many entry points there are, and how accessible the roofline and attic are. We don't quote rodent work sight-unseen, because a three-opening job and a whole-roofline job are genuinely different. The on-site inspection and the written quote are free, and you'll see the full scope before you decide anything.

How long does it take to get rats out of my attic?

Rodent removal takes a minimum of two visits, scheduled 5–7 days apart. Sealing and trapping begin together on the first visit, and the follow-up visit is when your technician checks the traps, removes captured rodents, and reassesses activity. Whether anything further is needed depends on what that follow-up finds.

How soon can you come out to my Miami home?

Same-day service is often available when the schedule allows, and most appointments land within one to two business days. During busy season the same-day window fills up faster, though one- to two-day scheduling stays very achievable. If rats are getting into your living space, we usually get someone out by the next business day.

Where do you place traps and bait around my home?

Interior work uses traps, placed according to the runways, droppings, and rub marks found during the inspection. Bait stations are used on the exterior perimeter only — we do not place bait inside your home or attic. If you have children or pets, or questions about where traps are going, raise it with your technician and follow the instructions you're given.

Can I just set traps myself instead of hiring someone?

Store-bought traps can catch individual rats, and that's useful in the short term. Activity comes back because the openings stay open, so the route into the attic is still there for the next rodent. Lasting results come from sealing the structure, which is the part most homeowners can't safely reach on a tile roof or in a tight attic.

Do you clean the attic after the rodents are removed?

Attic sanitation is available as a separate add-on when contamination warrants it. That work can include removing soiled insulation, sanitizing and deodorizing the space, and re-insulating. Our inspector will tell you whether your attic is a candidate and quote it on its own, so you can decide on it independently of the rodent removal.
